On Friday 28th November 1997, TC was the Unloader of Huckleberry Hound’s Merry - Go- Round (Carousel), when she left her position at the unloading bay, boarded the Carousel and had a ride with guests present on the attraction.
By her own admission TC did not follow the correct procedure as stated in The Huckleberry Hound’s Merry - Go- Round Operational Manual sub-section R3 Loading Procedures :-
Point 3.24.6 : During the cycle the loader/unloader stands at the rear of the ride near the E-Stop.
Point 3.24.7 : During the ride operation, keep an alert eye on the ride and make sure that the Guests remain seated at all times.
Point 3.27.8 : The loader is not to leave his/her position unless replaced or granted permission by the Supervisor.
TC has been fully trained and passed all exams.
TC’s actions are in clear breach of the Secrets to Your Success, pg 43 - 44 titled “Unacceptable Behaviours and Actionsâ€, points
6) leaving your assigned work station without the permission of your Supervisor.
12) failure to be alert at all times.
13) refusal to perform your duties as required.
16) failure to abide by all policies, procedures and requirements of Australia’s Wonderland and/or individual Departments or Supervisors.
and pg 43 - 44 “Summary Dismissalâ€, point
4) .wilful violation of any safety regulation or guidelines.
Due to the serious nature of this safety breach, TC’s employment has been terminated, within her probationary period, effective immediately.
