The Beastie Position Resonsibilities

Operator

1.  MANUAL BRAKING

A. The ride has four sets of brakes - emergency, trim, ready and dispatch.
While in manual operation, these brakes remain in the closed position until the operator opens them by depressing the respective button for each brake.
The control system will not allow certain brakes to be opened under particular situations.

i) When operating the brakes, the operator must always be aware of the positions of the trains.
Prior to bringing the train into the station, the operator must ensure the following before opening any brakes.

a) All brakes in front of entering the train are clear of obstructions.

b) All guests are behind the air gates and that the gates are closed.

c) All personnel are behind the yellow line.

ii) Once the above conditions are met, wait until the train comes on the emergency brake and slows to a controllable speed and then open the emergency brake by depressing
"Emergency Brake Release" button. Never open the emergency brake until you see that the train has slowed to a safe speed.

iii) As the train reaches the trim brakes again ensure that it is at a controllable speed and then if the station is clear, open the trim brakes by depressing "Trim Brake Release” button.

iv) Repeat this procedure as the train moves onto the ready brake.

v) The train will now proceed to the dispatch brake. Position the train in line with the air gates by opening and closing the "Dispatch Brake Release" button.

NOTE
If at any time conditions change and it is no longer safe to bring the train in, take your hands off all buttons and brakes will return to the closed position.

vi) Once the train has come to a complete stop in line with the loading stalls, press in the "Lap Bar Up" button. When the train is loaded, depress the "Lap Bar Down" button to allow bars to be closed and locked.

vii) As the train loads use the P.A. to direct both exiting and boarding guests, ask that all entering guests secure loose articles and once seated, pull the lap bar down in front of them. When the loader has checked all lap bars and given the "all clear" signal, depress "Dispatch Brake Release" to dispatch train.

viii) As the train leaves the station visually check all lap bars to ensure that they are closed.

ix) As the train ascends the lift, the loader should check for guests attempting to stand, and should use the P.A. to correct any problems. Be ready to stop the lift if necessary.

Suggested P.A. Spiels for the Operator are:-
"Thank you for riding the The Beastie. Please exit to your right and all the way to the bottom of the exit ramp. Have a nice day".
"Welcome to the Beastie. For your own safety we request that you keep your hands and arms inside at all times and secure loose articles. Thank you and enjoy your ride."
"Those of you waiting for the next train, please step back clear of the gates. Thank you".

2.  AUTOMATIC BRAKING - ONE TRAIN

NOTE

Automatic braking will be used in normal operation.

The following procedure will be adopted.

1. As the train approaches the station, depress and hold down "Auto Brake Enable" do this only if

(i) the track in front of the train is clear.
(ii) the station is clear and all guests are well behind the air gates.

2. With the system clear and auto brake enable down, (it should light up before it is depressed) the PLC will open and close the brake sections to bring the train to a smooth and safe stop in the station in the station aligned with the queue gates.

3. If any problems develop while the train is moving down the braking table simply release the "Auto Brake Enable" to stop the train.

4. When the train has stopped and is aligned correctly, depress "Lap Bar Up", give the exit spiel and thence as station is cleared turn your attention to those guests boarding.

5. As the air gates open and guests board give the entry spiel. When all guests are seated, depress "Lap Bar Down" to lock restraints.

6. When loader/unloader has given the all clear signal dispatch train by depressing "Dispatch Brake Release" only after assuring that it is inded safe to dispatch.

7. As the train leaves the station, visually check that all lap bars are secure.

8. During cycle give spiel to prepare guests for next train and be alert for any problems which could mean stopping the train on the Emergency Brakes.

9. Examples of spiels include:

"Thank you forriding the Beastie. Please exit to your right and all the way to the bottom of the exit ramp. Have a nice day".
"Welcome to the Beastie. For your own safety we request that you keep your hands and arms inside at all times and secure all loose articles. Thank you and enjoy your ride".
"Those of you waiting for the next train, please step back clear of the gates. Thank you".

NOTE
Always be alert, and always be prepared to stop the train on the brakes or lift if necessary.

3. AUTOMATIC BRAKING - TWO TRAINS

Note - Under normal operations this mode will be in use

(1) To brake each train into the station, follow the same procedure as for one train auto mode. However before the PLC will allow the train to enter the station, the following conditions must be satisfied.

(i) for the emergency brakes to function the second train must be clear of the station.
(ii) For the trim and ready brakes to function the second train must be on lift.

(2) If these conditions are not met the train will stop on the relevant brake until the maximiser allows it to proceed.

(3) When the train has stopped in the station and is aligned correctly, follow normal unloading and loading procedures.

(4) When the second train has passed over the lift into "B" block and both "Block B Occupied" and the "Dispatch OK" lights illuminate, you may dispatch the train, following normal procedure

(5) When the second train reaches the back curve the late dispatch alarm will sound, this signals that unless the train in the station is dispatched, a set up on the Emergency brakes may result.

(6) If because of problems in the station, you cannot dispatch a train on time, don't panic, allow the second train to set up if necessary and then dispatch the first train whenever ready. As soon as the first train has cleared the station,•depress "Auto Brake Enable" and allow train to proceed as normal. As the train clears the station "Block A Occupied" will light.

(7) As the first train leaves the station, it will signal the PLC to switch the chain from idle to high speed.

(8) As the train passes the transfer brakes they will be set to stop the second train if it fly's through the station (a "flyer") Thus the train on the lift is protected.

NOTE
The transfer brake is operated with the Transfer Brake Man/Auto key switch in auto position, this maintains the brake open except on emergency stop or if a flyer is detected, as described above. When key switch is in the manual position, the lift is inhibited and all brakes set. The transfer brake then may be opened by use of the push button located near the brake. Also it should be noted that limit switches are set to ensure that the transfer track section is locked into the running position. If they read a discrepancy, thus signalling that the transfer track is unlocked, an emergency stop will result.

(9) When the train is two thirds up the lift it may be stopped and not allowed onto the running track if any of the following conditions are not met.

1. Block B occupied
2. Emergency brake occupied (PE cell)
3. Emergency or trim brakes have not closed correctly.
4. Transfer track open
5. Transfer brake key switch on manual.
6. Low air pressure
7. Activation of back-up air system flow switch

(10) REMEMBER - If it is not safe to dispatch a train don't dispatch it.

NOTE
It is important to emphasize that the control system is a backup and its function should not be taken for granted.
You, the operator, must always be aware of the location of both train and act accordingly.

UNLOADER

1. Stand on the exit side of the station near the gate activating valve.

2. When the train has stopped and the lap bars have opened, direct and assist guests as quickly as possible, without obviously hurrying them.

3. As guests exit, open air gates to allow new riders to board the train.

4. Make sure all guests are seated with their backs against the seats completely. Only two guests are allowed per seat. No-body is allowed to sit in anyone's lap. Once all guests are seated close air gates, and be alert for any obstructions and be prepared to open gates and should a problem develop.

5. When the lap bars are locked move to front of the train check lap bars from front to rear until you meet the loader. Check that all is secure and give the operator the all clear signal to proceed. If there is a problem and lap bars must be reopened you must start again.

6. When all lap bars are checked and all is clear, give the operator the clear signal to proceed.

7. Stay well back from the platform edge as the train enters the station to ensure your safety and to give the operator a clear view.

8. Watch guests on loading side of platform to ensure they don't inadvertantly endanger themselves.

9. Do not allow guests to stand/or wait on the unload platform but ask them to wait at the base of the exit ramp.

Loader

1. As the train enters the station stand at the rear of the platform opposite the operator booth but clear of the air gates.

2. When all guests are seated and the air gates have closed, move down the train checking lap bars and ensuring people are seated properly until you meet the unloader at the middle. When you are sure that your side of the platform is secure, give the operator the all clear signal to proceed.

3. If the lap bars have to be reopened they must all be rechecked.

4. While waiting for the next train to arrive, pre group guests in lines into pairs and ensure that all medical, footwear and height restrictions are met.

5. Stay clear of the platform edge.
